Cheek Fillers

Many patients do not realize that facial drooping and deflating in the cheeks is caused by losing youthful volume. This age-related occurrence is caused by the shrinking of the facial fat pads as well as bone loss, but can also occur from weight loss and collagen loss related to sun damage. The entire cheek area can be rejuvenated, but most patients don’t realize that the benefits of cheek filler extend beyond the cheeks. A skillfully injected filler can improve the appearance of the tear trough hollows, laxity, and wrinkles in the lower cheek as well as uplift the jowls and marionette area.

As with all aesthetic treatments, it is important to realize that dermal fillers (Juvéderm, Restylane, Voluma, etc) are just products used to achieve results. The most crucial factor to consider is the experience, artistic vision, skill, judgment, and ability of the injector to achieve a natural aesthetic appearance.

Pre-treatment photos will be taken and compared to previous treatments or serve as a basis to measure results. You will wash your face and the Nurse or Medical Assistant will apply a local anesthetic and you will be ready for the treatment.

Patients report that there is no to minimal discomfort during the treatment. At Rejuvent we apply topical as well as a local anesthetic, and some fillers contain or are mixed with Lidocaine. Our goal is to provide a comfortable experience with the least amount of stress possible.

We recommend that our patients do not work out on the day of the appointment. Do not have any type of facial massage or place their face in a cradle for a massage as well as not wear goggles for 2 weeks post cheek filler injection.

Icing the area is an important step in minimizing swelling and soreness. Patients are given ice packs to apply to the cheek area following filler injections and should continue icing on the first day. To minimize bruising we also recommend the following:

• Do NOT take any aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar products (Advil, Motrin, Aleve) for 2 weeks before filler
• Avoid fish oil, Vitamin E, and ginkgo biloba for 2 weeks before filler
• Eat spinach, kale, and celery the week before to boost your levels of Vitamin K
• Apply VitaMedica Arnica + K Cream to areas most affected by bruising (around the mouth and under the eyes) for several days before the injection. This contains Arnica and Vitamin K and is available for purchase at Rejuvent or at RejuventSkinCare.com

You will see immediate improvement after the treatment but we often tell our patients that they will look their best 3-4 weeks after the injection.
